It's high heels time, baby!

I'm very happy to announce my next project: a pair of bespoke high heel boots for Niina, a finnish fashion blogger with an absolutely beautiful blog: Nelliinan vaatehuone. I met her yesterday in Tampere, after visiting Vapriikki, that has a great shoe museum. It was an excitement filled event, when two people met to discuss about their greatest passion: shoes. Though our approach to shoes is abit different: I'm a maker and she's a wearer. Nevertheless, it was a joy and I even managed to get her measurements in the midst of all my overflowing verbal reflection about shoes ;) I think I did manage to constrain my speech a bit, because she is a client after all.

Unfortunately for some of the previously mentioned reasons, I didn't take any photos about the occasion, so I'll have to show you all just the equipment and the outcome. Niina did send me one picture about our meeting, though:
A happy shoemaker!
I'll be making a pair of bespoke high heels, why wouldn't I be?!

Some of the quite unusual equipment I used.

This is a foam print, more commonly used when dealing with custom insoles,  but has a minimal help in making shoes too. So I figured why not?

My wife was fortunate enough to sample my brainiac: Since the high heels have a very different position from a flat shoe, I figured taking the measurements in the authentic shape would give more accurate results. Seemed to have some effect, since the numbers were different on many areas.

I quickly noticed that the surface was too small to make proper notes. So it took some extra hassle to get it done.
Just to be sure, I did take flat measures too.

Luckily, the absolutely wonderful person who owns these lasts borrowed them to me! Thank you Mr.J!
The heel is a bit short for them, so I'll have to do some tweaking. I'll have to order my copy of these lasts from the factory :)

And this is the model she decided to have. It's going to take some serious planning and drawing to get that drewn ready,
but I wouldn't take it any other way. Let's make some shoes!

Takaisin olennaiseen; mittasin Niinan jalat vähän erikoisilla vehkeillä, käyttäen muotoilemaani puualustaa jossa jalka on korkkareille ominaisemmassa asennossa. Näin toivoin saavani tarkemmat mitat sekä muodot verraten siihen että mitat otetaan normaalisti ilman mitään korkoa.
Viimeinen kuva kertoo mihin tapaamisessa päädyttiin.
Olen erittäin innostunut! Nyt vain odotellaan lestejä tehtaalta...

  2. Aivan mahtava juttu.
