Nina's

Ladies & Gents! After several months of waiting and about 90 pure handmade working hours; I'm proud to present the newest creation by yours truly! A project for the amazingly beautiful Niina, from the fashion blog Nelliinan vaatehuone.

*Drum roll...*

Nina's

I think I was quite obedient to the original drawing, though some changes did occur. Naturally :)

Taken from her blog (28.2.2012): here.

Taken from her blog (26.10.2012): here.

Materials:
  • Collar: Black suede with a black sheep nappa lining
  • Bow: Black patent leather ring with black alcantara bows.
  • Uppers: Cream white nubuck, Black patent leather.
  • Heel: Black patent leather covered plastic heel.
  • Sole: Vegetable tanned leather with an black 4mm rubber half sole.
What can I say? Well, I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome, being my first bespoke high heels... I'd say I'm REALLY pleased. There's a million little things that could've gone better, but then again a million little things that I learned. So that's a alot!
I'll update images of Niina wearing them from her posts later on.
One can only say: Tally hooooo!

  17. Those are truly beautiful!!! Thank you so much for your blog. I just found it a few days ago so I got to read the whole thing and not have to wait. ;) I've been trying to find something to see how heels were made and it's tough to find. Your blog has given me wonderful insight (and newfound respect) into the indepth work involved in creating such beautiful fuctional art.

    1. Thank you very much Jaunvie! I'm very glad that my blog's been of use to you, and your words are very flattering :) Are you studying shoemaking, or just very interested in it? Where are you from? If you don't mind me asking ;)

  18. I'm from the US. Michigan. I'm a seamstress by trade. I have been thinking about learning to make shoes because I have very specific ideas on what I want with some of my designs I come up with. I'm a very "do it yourself" type of person and I've learned everything from bags and purses, gloves, and millinery. Shoes were kind of the next logical step. (Ok, bad pun ;) ) I had no idea it would be so difficult to find good information. Honestly, your blog has been wonderful for me because of the photos. I've read some forums on shoemaking, but I don't really know the proper names for all the parts of the shoe, so I would very quickly get lost in what was being said. With photos I have no problem. So thanks again for that. :D

    1. Hey, happy Mardi gras :) Well, I don't know if the rest of the states celebrate it, but I'm a huge NOLA fan, so. Information, especially on making women's shoes would be difficult. Most that I've learned are from masters of the trade, and even they're more focused on men's handmade shoes. You should check this blog out: http://handmadeshoes.wordpress.com/ This guy also has a great video channel on youtube, which includes making of high heels :) Another, maybe the most informative blog on making gentlemen's dress shoes traditionally is a blog from London: http://carreducker.blogspot.com/

In short I'd say that making shoes is one of the hardest professions to master, so I'd recommend attending some courses held by professionals first, to get a feel of what's to be done. And I wouldn't count too much on my shoemaking vocabulary, because even the one's in finnish are hard to remember. Let alone to know what they're in english.

    1. Kiitoksia Sarkku! Yritän tosiaankin hieman näyttää vaiheita, jotta lukijat ymmärtävät vähän mistä on kyse. Kengät ovat niin arkisia, ettei heti tule kelattua miten ne oikeastaan tehdään. Nämä käsintehdyt nyt ovat tietenkin ihan oma maailmansa teolliseen verrattuna.
